MAN TREKS FROM LAGOS TO ZARIA

A 26-year-old man, Tunde Agbaje, has reportedly trekked from the Ketu area of Lagos State to Zaria in Kaduna State.
According to a source, we learnt that Agbaje, who is the cousin of a former People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, went on the adventure to prove his love for a lady, Sharon Donald.
Our correspondent gathered that 26-year-old Donald is the daughter of a former governor of a state in the South-South and had recently travelled to New York, United States of America.
It was learnt that Agbaje and Donald had met in Ikoyi, Lagos State, and had been friends for the past six years, but she had turned down his marriage proposal several times.
Agbaje said he decided to trek to Zaria to prove his love for Donald, adding that he was on the road for 19 days.
The Lagos State indigene was reportedly received on Friday, October 21, by the Chief Security Officer of the Ahmadu Bello University, Col J.K. Tukur; and the protocol office of the Emir of Zaria.
He was later taken to a hospital where he was reportedly treated for the injuries he sustained during the trek, which was monitored by a GPS tracker.
Narrating how he met Donald, Agbaje said, “I was with my friends sometime in 2010 and while we were discussing about ladies, I said I wished God would just show me my wife anytime soon.
“About five minutes later, we were hungry and I went to get food on Awolowo Road. It was my first day at that eatery. I was waiting to be served when she walked in. Coincidentally, that day was also her first day there.  I observed that there was a love image at the back of the trousers she put on.
“She approached me and asked what she could buy and I advised her. We later exchanged contacts and became friends. That was how my love for her started growing. We met several times afterwards.”
Agbaje said some months later, he decided to open up on his feelings for Donald, but she turned him down.
He said he persisted, adding that when Donald didn’t bulge, he decided to do “what no man can do for her.”
“I chose to trek to Zaria because her parents dated for six years in ABU, Zaria, before they got married. I didn’t let my parents know and to ensure I was not disturbed, I changed my SIM card. I took a tracker along with me to monitor my movements. I never took a bus at any time. It was a tough task and I even collapsed some of the times. I took off from Ketu on October 2 and arrived in Zaria on Thursday, October 20, around 4.15pm.
“I have no regret for what I have done. I have proved my love for her, even though she didn’t reciprocate my feeling. I believe even if she gets married to another person, nobody will ever be able to do what I did for her,” Agbaje added.
Our correspondent was told that the CSO of ABU, Tukur, called Donald to ask if she was aware of Agbaje’s adventure, which she acknowledged.
She, however, didn’t state if she would accept his proposal.
The head of the protocol office of the Emir of Zaria, Mr. Abubakar Ladan, told our correspondent on the telephone that Agbaje was received at the palace. He added that the emir had stepped out when he arrived.
“I had a brief chat with him and after telling us his mission, we prayed for him and wished him the best,” he added.
When our correspondent contacted Donald, she said she knew Agbaje was embarking on the trek, adding that she warned him against it.
She said she had never had any relationship with him, describing him as a stalker.
She said, “Tunde (Agbaje) has been harassing and stalking me for the past six years and as far as I am concerned, this is just a new escapade in a series of his harassment.
“I met Tunde at a church when I was living in Lagos and we were both part of the youth ministry. He never had a friendship, let alone a relationship, with me. I was in a music group and some of the youths had my phone number, including him.
“He later found out where I lived and came to my house. My mum warned him to leave me alone, but he refused.   I changed my phone number and moved to the US, but I don’t know how he got my contact. I have stopped picking calls from Nigeria because of him.
“He later called me and said he was going to trek to prove his love for me in a non-violent way and I told him not to do it because he could die. I said that not because I cared, but just for Christian charity. This guy is mentally unstable, because how can you still be stalking a woman who has turned you down for six years?”

Eagles need strong midfield against Algeria — Peters

Former  Flying Eagles  coach, James Peters, has said the Super Eagles need a strong  midfield to win the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo on November 12.
Peters, who praised the Eagles for beating Zambia 2-1 in their first World Cup qualifying match, believes  a  strong midfield  will help   Nigeria stop Algeria attackers from winning the game.
The former Super Falcons  coach said, “It is a good thing that the Eagles began with a victory against Zambia in their first match. It will take a lot of pressure off them  going into the second match against Algeria.”
“Beating Algeria at home will  help Nigeria to maintain their control of the  group. The match will be a very tough one and I believe that it can be won through a strong midfield.
“Our midfield against Zambia was quite good but they later gave in to pressure from the opponents. We cannot allow that to happen against Algeria because they have good midfielders who will be feeding their strikers well. A strong midfield will help the attackers score more goals.”
Peters added, “Our defenders were jittery against  Zambia  and that was  not a good sign for the team. Such a defence can concede more goals  against a strong team like Algeria.
“If the defence is  strengthened, the team’s aim of getting a win can be easily achieved.”

Militants refuse Buhari's meeting and attack pipeline

The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate has attacked another crude oil delivery line at Effurun-Otor Ughelli South Council Area of Delta State to announce its rejection of Tuesday’s meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and some leaders of the region.
The 32-inch pipeline, which is operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, was brought down by the militants at about 11.30pm on Saturday.
Greenland Mandate said although it was desirous to negotiate with the Federal Government, it was not comfortable with some of the delegates in the Chief Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta Forum.
It had also threatened to attack oil facilities in the region if the Federal Government decided to go ahead with the proposed meeting because it did not trust members of the Clark committee.
A statement claiming responsibility for the attack by the militants’ spokesman, Aldo Agbalaja, said the war against oil facilities in the region would not end until the government engaged true representatives of the people in a genuine dialogue.
According to the statement, “We are reiterating our unflinching belief that the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, being coordinated by E.K Clark, is a job and therefore can never get our support. Like we said before now, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate is not opposed to a genuine dialogue between the Federal Government and the real representatives of the various ethnic groups of our region.”
The militant group stated that it had commenced the collection of names from the ethnic nationalities whom they stressed would sincerely and equitably represent the people of the region in a genuine negotiation with the Federal Government.
Both the military and community sources confirmed the development to our correspondent when they were contacted on Sunday.
Our security source said the military from the 23 Battalion in Agbarho-Otor were already scouting for those behind Saturday’s attack in Effurun-Otor.
But the spokesman for the Joint Task Force Codenamed Operation Delta Safe, Lt. Col. Olaolu  Daudu, when contacted at about 8.20pm on Sunday, could neither confirmed nor denied the attack but appealed to journalists to stop giving undue publicity to the activities of the militants.

Buhari never asked any judge to pervert poll judgment – Presidency

The Presidency, on Sunday, broke its silence on the allegations of inducement raised by two of the judges arrested recently, saying President Muhammadu Buhari would never authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.
That was the Presidency’s first official reaction to allegations by two of the embattled judges, who claimed that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, approached them allegedly on the instruction of the President to influence decisions on election cases.
A Justice of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta, who was one of those arrested by the Department of State Services between October 7 and 8, had, in a letter dated October 18, 2016 and addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, alleged that Amaechi had impressed it upon him that the President was interested in the judgments of the Supreme Court on Ekiti and Rivers elections going in favour of the All Progressives Congress.
Another apex court Justice, John Okoro, had also claimed that Amaechi told him that the President and the APC mandated him to inform him (Okoro) that they must win the governorship election appeals in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states at all cost.
But Shehu, in the statement, advised journalists and other Nigerians to stop linking Buhari to the travails of the judges.
“President Muhammadu Buhari would be the last person to authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice,” he said.
The presidential aide noted that despite his personal familiarity with some judges, the President never used that to seek favours from them in 2003, 2007 and 2011, when Buhari challenged the fairness of the presidential election results, from the lowest to the highest courts in the land.

I made you, 24 others billionaires – Obasanjo tells Alakija

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Saturday in Lagos that Africa’s richest woman by Forbes reckoning, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, was among the 25 billionaires he made during his tenure as President.
Obasanjo stated this at the 2016 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum.
The former president was reacting to an allegation by Alakija, at the event, that the Obasanjo administration frustrated her effort when she ventured into oil business.
Alakija, who spoke before Obasanjo, alleged that his administration illegally took an oil block allocated to her company after her family had invested all its savings to strike oil in commercial quantity.

She said, “This oil block is in 5000 feet depth of water and was extremely difficult to explore.
“It took 15 years from the time that we were awarded the licence in 1993 till 2008 when we struck the first oil
“When this event happened, 60 per cent out of our 60 per cent equity in the business, was forcefully taken from us by the government of the day without due process.
“We had to fight back by going to court to seek redress and it took another 12 years for justice to be served in our favour.
“In all those years it was my trust in God, my perseverance and the support of my family that got me going.”
.
She used her experiences to charge the 2000 budding entrepreneurs at the event to be dogged, determined and not to give up in the face of challenges.
When Obasanjo spoke, the former president seized the opportunity to reply to the allegation by Alakija.
He said, “There is a saying in my part of the world that when a proverb touches you and you failed to reply, then you are a coward.”
Obasanjo explained that the action of the government then was in line with the Mining Act, which regulates oil prospection and exploration.
He said, “For you to come here and say that, for no cause whatsoever, you were denied what was rightfully yours, is not fair.
“I do not know you from Adam and there is no reason I would have denied you what rightfully belonged to you.
“So, you have struggled, and you have struck oil. God bless your heart.
“My delight is to be able to create Nigerian billionaire and I always say it that my aim, when I was in government was to create 50 Nigerian billionaires.
“Unfortunately I failed. I created only 25 and Madam, you are one of them.”
Obasanjo hailed the vision of Mr. Tony Elumelu for helping to build African young entrepreneurs with his resources.
He also urged the government to create conducive environment for people to move businesses into the country.
The former president urged government to relax its visa policy and company registration process to encourage investors.
He said the government should create certification centres in the country for easy exportation of agro processed products.
The President of Sierra Leone, Bai Koroma, noted that what transpired between Obasanjo and Alakija was part of the challenges and difficulties that leaders lived with in the discharge of their duties.
With limited resources competing for unlimited demands and expectations from the people, leaders were seen to be larger than life, he said.
Koroma also commended Elumelu for his project for African young entrepreneurs adding that his vision resonated with a new Africa development agenda.

N1.4bn Arms scam: EFCC presents 13 more Exhibits against ex Chief of Defence staff, Alex Badeh

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 admitted another thirteen exhibits tendered before it by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the ongoing trial of a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh (rtd).
Badeh is being prosecuted by the EFCC alongside his company, Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, for allegedly abusing his office by using the dollar equivalent of the sum of N1.4billion (One Billion, Four Hundred Million Naira) removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, to purchase properties in choice areas of Abuja between January and December, 2013.

The offence contravenes Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.

Counsel to EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, led the seventh prosecution witness, PW7, Oluwatoyin Oke (a business woman); from whom the first defendant (Badeh) allegedly bought a choice property in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja in evidence.

The witness told the court that she used to own and live in No. 19, Kumasi Crescent, Wuse 2 Abuja also known as plot 456 Kumasi Crescent Wuse 2, until 2013 when she sold it for N260million. Oke stated that after putting the property up for sale, she was contacted by one Abba Maidama who informed her of an interested buyer. Upon inspection of the property, Maidama further informed her that his client was ready to commence payment in three installments.

The PW7 told the Court that the first installment she received was $550,000.00 (five hundred and fifty thousand United States dollars) which was paid into her account by the agent. Upon receipt of the second and third installments of the dollar equivalent of N260million, Oke stated that she signed and handed over all the original documents and title deeds of the property, including a Power of attorney, Deed of Assignment and Deed of Sale to Maidama.

Prosecuting counsel now asked the witness to ascertain copies of the documents which were shown to her in court; and she did. Thereafter, the documents were tendered and marked as exhibits D8 to D20 with no objection from lead defense counsel, Akin Olujimi, SAN. Olujimi was called upon to cross-examine the witness to which he declined.

Justice Okon Abang, thereafter, adjourned to the November 2 and 3, 2016 for continuation of trial.
